A Wonderful Time of the Year...to get sick
Namaste yogis!
With the hustle and bustle of the holiday season, your healthful diet begins to diminish and is then replaced with cookies and wine. Along with taking time for yourself and pretty much every other normal part of your life. From Thanksgiving until the New Year, your life is consumed by holiday parties and non-stop shop-til-ya-drop errands. These things are great... until you hug a million people and touch a million things and share your food/drinks/gifts with all of your friends and family.
Why is that bad you ask? Two words. Flu Season.
Which brings me to today's topic! Welcome back guest blogger, Rachel Starr, who joined us a few weeks ago with the article "Where the Wild Things Are". Today she will be priming us for "Holiday Survival" - the goodies, the parties and plenty of winter time germs; with tips to boost your immune system. She covers what to look for, why you should get it and where to find it.
Happy Holidays!
Ahh what a wonderful time of year... Loaded with obligation pies and parties galore complete with all your favorite games like Jenga, Carcassonne and Dodge the Germs!
I make it sound so pleasant, don't I? ;-) I have so many friends who complain tho, that they are not feeling well every other day! They go to hug with the statement, "You don't want to hug me, I'm sick!" "Ha!", I reply, "You can't get me sick! I don't get sick!". And then I precede to hug them anyways. Funny, I wonder if they notice I haven't been sick yet? Also, to add to it, I work in a multi-specialty clinic so we get extra bombarded with the dread Flu Season.
So how can we stay guarded? I have to stop here and admit something. Around Nov 1st, my friend and I signed up for a swing dancing class. On the first Monday she and I both started to feel all skin crawly and unwell. I thought, "Oh hell no!" I had just dropped good money and really wanted to go to this class!!! I immediately went for my Apple Cider Vinegar tabs. And ate like 10. Yeah, yeah, yeah I know, it says take two. Two was not gonna do it. I chased them down with the only thing I had, Earl Grey tea. Ok, so what does it do? Apple Cider Vinegar alkalizes this system and helps remove toxins. This I knew was massively important. So now what? That was not gonna be enough. So I did not run down the hallway to my friends office, I think I did a fast zombie drag to her, and gave her some, too. Unfortunately, we could not lunch together that day, so she went to get Apple Cider Vinegar for herself. I recall a trip to Jamba Juice to get there Apples and greens drink and w wheat grass shot. Back at the office I went to keep hammering away at the ACV, (yes, like 10 at a time!). I also was armed with a green veggie powder that I added to my drink-thing. So two things about the drink. It's already loaded with natural occurring vitamin C that helps repair damaged tissue and heals us in many ways, and now I added all this green powder loaded with balancing a neutralizing clorella that will further assist in the arresting and removal of toxins.
By the end of the work day I was back with a bounce in my step and ready to Lindy Hop!
That sure was a close call, and the closest one I have had. I have kept the ACV going and take about 20 a day. Now I am 115lbs, so some people might want to take more based on body size. I could go on and on for hours about the awesomeness of ACV! It has a myriad of health benefits for every system in the body. I personally don't like to drink it and so choose to take the tabs. One thing I will say? It does help easy tummy issues from eating all that home-made fresh baked obligation pie! And cookies and, and and...
C needs to be taken in as natural a way as you can find. If you do take the shelf vitamins, make certain that it is Acerola C or Esther -C NOT Ascorbic Acid. That stuff is a hollow husk and forces your body to work harder to fill in the gaps.
And greens... Mmm. I get more hell for the "grass" I put in my drink! LoL aww! Another way to combat the taste if your whimpy like that, it to take Blue-green Algea tabs. And don't be shy with them. Take several.
Holiday Survival Kit:
Plenty of mineral filled happy water!
Apple Cider Vingar tabs
Real C
Blue Green Algea
And yes, in order to rinse it out drink plenty of water with minerals like sea salt or shilajit, fresh juices, and on the run fresh juices from the mall!!
Rachel, thank you once again for sharing your tricks and tips with the readers of FBCM! Be sure to catch up with Rachel on facebook and prepare yourself for the winter germs! :)
Namaste!

Grace - do you know where to get ACV tablets? Somewhere like Nature's Pantry? I have heard that ACV has a lot of benefits but have never tried it. Thanks!
Sandy - I've been looking and have had a hard time finding some myself. I have been searching online and there are plenty of places to order from, but it looks as though Nature's Panty does have them in store. :) I'm trying there next for sure!
I hope this helps! Namaste!
