Coming out of a cleanse

Without the crash

Namaste yogis!

To finish out our cleansing month of January, I'd like to talk about coming down from a cleanse "without the crash". So, what is the "crash" anyway? Let me put it this way; I think that many of us who have cleansed in the past have made the same mistake of eating all of the things we weren't allowed to eat...all at once...the day after a cleanse has ended. And then we feel absolutely terrible for a few days after our binge-fest is over. OR we completely forget everything we've learned within our detox journey and go back to old habits for the pure fact of enjoying simple convenience.

Today I will give you a few tips to avoid making this same mistakes that so many of us have come into contact with in post detox experiences.

How to Prep for a Cleanse

tips to help in the days leading up to a detox

Namaste yogis!

So last week we discussed why we should be cleansing our bodies and what detox actually means.  This week we will be going over ways to get you, your home and your bod ready for the process of cleaning from the inside out! Get ready for January with FBCM - it's a month to reset, renew and clarify!

Whether you are participating in the "New Year, ReNew You" cleanse with Sara Streeter and I at the Zen Zone - or if you've even just considered doing a detox - here are a few ways to get you ready to make the jump into full transition of a cleanse.

What is a cleanse?

Why would I want to detox?

Namaste yogis!

The new year is finally here! Aren't you ready to wash away the waste of 2012 and create space for all that is positive in 2013? What better time than now to reset your lifestyle? And what more perfect way to do it than to detox and participate in a cleanse?

One of the most common responses to this statement is,"Yeah, okay, so...what is a cleanse? Why would I want to detox?"

These are both great questions. Detox is short for detoxification; which is the body's natural, ongoing process of neutralizing and/or eliminating toxic waste from the body. Toxins are anything than can potentially harm the body; we can become exposed to them from our environment, food, water and lifestyle choices. A cleanse is a change in one's lifestyle for a certain amount of time (in this case 21 days) to rid the body of toxic waste on many levels. In yoga we learn that it is important to cleanse the body, mind and spirit of physical, mental and emotional waste. So my question is, why wouldn't you want to detox?

I think I'm turning "Veganese"

I really think so

Namaste yogis!

If you recall, last month I participated in a 21 day Vegan Cleanse. Since then I have gone back to eating as a vegetarian again (about 10 days now). Today I will share with you my experiences during my three week transformation and the knowledge that I have gained whilst tuning inward...along with the observations I have made within the past 10 days of going back to my regular vegetarian diet.

My views of my personal nutrition have definitely adjusted a bit and I feel that I am now better able to know the difference between when/what my body needs and when/what my body wants. Which is why I say, "I think I'm turning 'Veganise'...I really think so."

Thai Coconut Curry

The Good Heart Cookbook

Namaste yogis!

If you recall from this month's "choose to live well challenge", part two is all about cleansing. Well I am now three days into my three week vegan cleanse. So far it has been going exceptionally well, although I expect to endure a few struggles as I dive deeper into the 21 days. (You can check up on the types of food I've been eating on twitter.)  Most people are quite concerned as to what I will be eating to nourish my body, but I have been planning many different kinds of meals to keep things interesting as well as fulfilling to my dietary needs.

Today I would like to share with you a recipe that my sister had shared with me a few days back. This version of Thai Coconut Curry was created by Jonsi and Alex; who are both musicians (you may have heard some of their music in my yoga classes) as well as food enthusiasts. This meal is vegan as well as raw, so it will be simple to prepare...no cooking! Plus it's full of nutrients!
